from VICE records:
Japanese Motors are the most exciting band to emerge from Orange County since the heyday of Social Distortion and TSOL. Hailing from Costa Mesa and comprised of RVCA pro-surfer and singer Alex Knost, guitarist Nolan Hall, bassist Chris Vail, and drummer Andrew Atkinson, the band is known around Southern California for the insane, all-night blowouts they put on as much as for the driving, raucous garage pop they set the partying to.
Rather than fight the influence of their surroundings like so many of their So Cal contemporaries, Japanese Motors have channeled it into their music, making tunes every bit as sun-baked and laid-back as their coastal environs and rife with positive imagery. "Most bands from here are trying to sound like they're from London or New York," Nolan says. "We embrace where we're from." In return for their local pride, the Southern Californian surf community has embraced them right back. Japanese Motors are part of RVCA's Artist Network Program and fellow surfers Emmett and Brendan Malloy (who made three White Stripes videos) directed the video for the band's first single "Single Fins & Safety Pins."
On August 19th, Vice Records will release this single, "Single Fins & Safety Pins," which contains the album version and a radio edit of the song, as well as b-side "Coors Lite," another track from their upcoming self-titled full length debut, due in October 2008. Japanese Motors hit the road in August, starting off in NYC, winding their way down the East Coast before heading back home to play with the Black Lips and at LA's Detour Fest.... ... Chicken Dinner!
This deserves to be honored in a ton of ways. Working where I work, I see tons of people who think they have what it takes to make a decent wedding invite/announcement. The sad thing is, as long as I have worked there, I have only seen 2 that I have ever liked and I looked at the first one with gratefulness because it didn't suck. The half-sheet of paper was simple and got to the point and you-know-who had nothing to do with it. Nothing to really brag about, but it wasn't horrible to all ends.
NOW..... for the winner...... This ones takes my vote in everything. This one made me think that not all weddings are disastrous, horrible, and nothing will ever be right. I was proven wrong today at work. I stood there in awe and just admired this couple because I for once was finally jealous of somebody's wedding announcement and didn't feel bad for their life ahead of them just by judging them on their invite for the whole world to see. Seriously, I give my up-most respect for this couple and hope them the best...(in the most non creepy/stalker way, because I have no idea who they are).
Here is what I pulled off their blogspot. (thats right, they have their own blogspot for their wedding.)

Basically, It's a 2 page book, thats vintage and old looking. The front and back covers were this leather stuff that made it look like an old photo album. As you can guess my conclusion, this wedding looked to be dope/radical/ill project all on it's own.
Awesome blossom, EXTRA awesome.
So, I bet you're sick of my blogging about random music, music you haven't heard of, or whatevs. Butttt, people, I know what I know. And today what I know is.... that Japanese Motors are all of a sudden in fast forward. I swear, even if they were no body's when I first heard of them, and you still think that they are still nothing to brag home about then, ok, do what you will. I will have you know this, the last time I told you about some one, or some people, or music, or, who cares, I just know that I threw up a post about Shwayze reality show in like December and now it's just starting to air and everyone is now knowing who he is when I was telling you how cool he was back in the da diz day. Along with you know, that girl who kissed a girl, and liked it, and Whoopi Goldberg kissed her to. (hahaha, YouTube it, it was from the morning talk show, "the view") ...Katy Perry.
So.... Japanese Motors, I'm telling you, Huge!! I hope, because the last half of what you just read you already knew, and I was just using what I wrote as proof I know what I know.
Here are just a few things that make me know that the Japanese Motors are doin things, doin work, and being most righteous bros... siiiiiick.!!
Beach Blanket Burnout -- Lead Singer/Front Man Alex Knost is an actor/director/surfer/musician. This film was shot in Australia and stars Alex Knost as Buster. Also check his appearance in the movie Tales From The Black Van.
Alex Knost and Chris Vail rockin' out on stage.
Al singin his skinny little emo/indie surf rock n' roll heart out.
Music Video shoot for the Japanese Motors first single, Single Fins & Safety Pins. How cool is this, they are rockin in the ocean. Can't deny that.

1, 2, 3, 4 -- get your booty on the dance floor, work it out, shake it lil' mama, let me see you do the Jane Fonda. ///mickey avalon.
...incase you forgot the lyrics to one his most famous song Jane Fonda. Free Mickey Avalon show. Just thought you should know what we are all missing out on.

So I just got done reading this wonderful, radical, most triumphant of a book. I literally couldn't put it down. What more do you want to know other than the book is full of stories that come with the lifestyle of rock and roll. You can only think of what really went on.
The book explains everything from Slash's point of view. How Guns N' Roses started, how it ended, what went wrong, what went right and how to live your life in the moment and dealing with some demons that you would never wish upon anybody. The book took me less than a week to finish and I don't regret reading any of the book. enjoy.
Some more Japanese Motors press that could I should have added to the last post, but oh well.

...And their front man Alex Knost in this summers new surf film, Beach Blanket Burnout.

Remember, I told you about my rude awakening when I was told about Delta Spirit, yet I didn't realize the magic until I saw them live? Here is the interview with Delta Spirit from SURFING Magazine. Enjoy.

SURFING MAGAZINE: How did you guys all come together? BRANDON YOUNG: The second song on the new album, “Trashcans,” is actually about how we got together as a band. About four years ago, I was in downtown San Diego getting a pack of smokes at 2:30 in the morning and I see this guy playing guitar in the trolley station. A lot of homeless people play guitars down there, but this guy actually sounded pretty good. So, I walked over there and this kid — Matt [Vasquez], our singer — was jamming. I got his number and then the band that me and John were in broke up, so I called Matt, the guy I just met on the train tracks. He’d just recorded a solo record and he was like, screw it, I’m throwing this away and playing with you guys.
How would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard you before? We’re heavily influenced by a lot of old soul and Americana music. We’re probably going to have to pay royalties to Richard Swift, this amazing artist and friend of ours, ’cause it’s pretty questionable as to if we’re ripping him off or not. He’s absolutely genius.
Aside from the Swift rip-offs, where do most of your songs come from? I guess our biggest inspiration is just hanging out and jamming. We’ll go out to a bar and hang out, then come back to our studio and start trading off on the drums and stuff. We don’t sit down and write, it all comes from jam sessions. It starts with a cool lick or a couple chords, and then the lyrics of the song come from Matt or Kelly [Winrich, keyboards].
What sorta stuff do they write about? Well, the song Ode to Sunshine is about the struggle of making this record, everything that was going on through our lives, from drinking to girls to god, just thrown it into this one melting pot. We write about some serious issues, because that’s more important to us than just getting up there and getting hammered or whatever. Not to say we don’t do that sometimes, too.
What’s been the biggest highlight for the band, so far? When we started playing together, it was just jamming and playing some songs together. After the first or second show, we went back to our practice space and said, “Do we want to do this?” And we all said, “Yeah, let’s do it.” We literally just quit everything else — all our jobs and everything — and just started making music. Just knowing that we all really wanted to do this, that was huge.
Back in January when I was in my Writing clas, I was assigned to read this article out of a tabloid magazine. One of the articles was a movie review. Without even thinking what else was there was to read about something else I just happened to start reading this random article. The review was on the movie "Control". The review made the film sound awesome. It was about a post punk band from the late '70s from England called Joy Division. The summary I picked up from the article is about a messed up artist and his love for music, his wife, and his new girlfriend. Yet and the same time, the love of those things around him is what caused him to eventually kill himself at the age of 23. Ian Curtis, the lead singer and the main character, had an interesting life, the story is almost as if he was a Kurt Cobain story and started the trend. Who Knows. So when I read the article in January, I went to rent the movie and it wasn't even released in the states yet. Then last week I saw it randomly and I watched it. Good movie, black and white, slow, just as if it were straight from the '70s. Looking at the comparison to Sam Riley, the one who played the role of Ian Curtis, this film was created to be almost exactly the way it actually took place.
++ Sam Riley playing the roll of Ian Curtis.
++ His girlfriend that he was dating while still married to his wife.
After watching the movie, I did some more research on this interesting topic and found out that they were a band everyone really liked. Then, I find out that the Killers did a cover of one of their most famous songs, "Shadowplay" The killers did an awesome job, considering the fact that anything recorded now can sound better than anything recorded back in the day. So now you know. Post punk band from the late '70s called Joy Division is a group that inspired groups today such as the killers.

WARPED TOUR:
First off... Why Ee Es. YES. Warped tour was dope. First things first.
The first band that I watched by choice would be The Color Fred. Man that dude is old, but none the less... Next was none other than Shwayze.. Awesome performance and everything about it was just as good as you could ask for. After the Shwayze set I went on over to his booth to get some pics and get the signing stuff done with. Man Cisco is such a radical dood. I never thought that I would get to meet him, shwayze or skeet, but guess what people, I did.

After all that I checked out Cobra Starship, That set was just as good as the last time I saw them, wait actually it was better, A) because Metro Station wasn't there, and B) cause We The Kings weren't either... And there was a ton more people... And what made me even more stoked, the one song they have ft. Travy from Gym Class Heroes and William Beckett from The Academy Is; Bring It/Snakes on a Plane was epic. Both of them joined Cobra Starship and made the performance that much better.
During the last song of Cobra Starship, I headed over the the Skull Candy tent to watch the acoustic set of Shwayze, that was rad and Cisco called me out in between songs saying I looked like I was from Dogtown and I was Tony Alva's sisters friend... whatevs, compliment none the less. When the set was over I hung out and talked with them some more and got to talk one on one with Cisco and Skeet. Skeet ended up hooking me up with a pair of Shwayze/Skull Candy headphones and Cisco gave me his Banana Beats pick. I almost got the blue and white RVCA hat from Shwayze but no bueno on that one becky.

When all the fun from that died out I checked out KATY PERRY. She is so fine. Her music live is a lot more hard core than I thought it would be, which made things even better. She is pretty sassy on stage and said it how it was. I liked that. During the middle of her set Cisco and Shwayze came out to perform with her and I'm glad I saw it. Awesomenesssss!!.
That about wraps up the day of fun filled music and meeting people that I rock out to on a daily basis and some of my life goals have been completed.

This is the sign above the door at a Carls' Jr. in California/Cafilornia.... I loved spicy chicken, and a famous star and some fries, and some fry sauce, dang....
