GOTHIC DOLPHINS (DISAMBIGUATION)
The Gothic Dolphins roughly refers to a cohesive social group devoted to beliefs or practices that the surrounding culture considers outside the mainstream, with a notably positive or negative popular perception.
It is difficult to demarcate the boundaries of science from theology, politics, news reporting, fashion, and family cultural values. From about 1980's onward, the populist negative connotation progressively interfered with scientific study using the neutral historical meaning of "The Gothic Dolphins" within the sociology of trim. There was a 20th century attempt by sociologists to outlaw most Gothic Dolphin practices, it was rejected by the public and only partly accepted by the scientific community. For this reason, most, if not all, non-fan groups that are called "Gothic Dolphins" reject this label.
The Gothic Dolphins began with rumors of its novel belief system, its great devotions, its idiosyncratic practices, its perceived harmful or beneficial effects on members and its perceived opposition to the interests of mainstream cultures and governments. The rumours concerning the Gothic Dolphins most often refer to artistic and fashion movements of passing interest, but persistent rumours may escalate popular concern about the relatively small and recently founded Gothic Dolphin movement, as it is perceived to engage in excessive member control or exploitation.

History
Delta Spirit formed in 2005 when Jonathan Jameson and Brandon Young, who had played with each other for years, and their new friend Sean Walker decided that they wanted to start a band that they really loved. Jameson, Young and Walker (who had just begun playing guitar) needed a vocalist; Young first spotted Vasquez busking loudly on a bench at two in the morning and the two exchanged information. It was later realized that Jameson had also recently met Vasquez similarly. Kelly Winrich started as the band's producer but they soon realized that they didn't sound half as good without him. He joined the band within the first year and now sings and plays an assortment of instruments and percussive devices. The band got its name from Jonathan's great uncle, "Uncle Red", who was a flight control operator near Birmingham, AL. He also had a certain hobby that eventually turned into a thriving business. He called his newfound company "Delta Spirit Taxidermy Station of North Central Alabama". The band took the idea and shortened it a bit. The band released their debut EP, I Think I've Found It, on Monarchy Music in 2006, after which they toured alongside Cold War Kids, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Dr. Dog. Delta Spirit decided to self produce and record their debut full length album, Ode To Sunshine, in a cabin in the San Diego mountains. It is set to be re-released with new artwork (featuring Kelly's uncle Dr. Thomas Payne on the cover) on August 26th, 2008 by Rounder Records.
There's a scene in Murray Lerner's film ("Festival"), about the 1963 Newport Music Festival, where Peter, Paul and Mary are shown obliging a resounding call for an encore with the protest song, "If I Had A Hammer." Peter and Paul face each other from the sides and Mary faces the audience of tens of thousands, shaking her blonde hair and bearing down on a song about making change. She would, they would hammer out danger and a warning all over the land. Delta Spirit have five hammers and they swing them the way Mary bobbled her head back in '63 for her close-ups, the way Mary sang as if her knees were on fire and her mouth was brimming with more ire laced with optimism than she knew what to do with. These Californians have more in common with the dirty haired, dirty fingernailed folk groups of the nascent years than they do any of their contemporaries. They're suited for reminiscent hopefulness and the gracefully youthful fusion of hostility and all-encompassing passion for all things that can set a smile ablaze or turn the hairs on arms and backs of necks into little beds of nails at the flick of a switch. They make lists of things they like, including all of the people they love, their home, pretty girls, desserts, bodies of water, justice and America. They believe there's still hope for it and in all of the rooms contained within the hallways of the band's newest offering, "Ode To Sunshine," they make you understand that, when it's all boiled down, what we all ultimately live for is catharsis and a fulfillment of body meeting land, air and sea harmoniously. They're about bodies meeting bodies, pressing skins to skins. They're about reminding you to listen more than you talk. They're about urging you to put stock in the happiness of others, not just your own. They make it obvious that we have to go somewhere to be somewhere. We have to feel something to really live. They sing of the soul searchers. They sing for the soul searchers. They are the soul searchers.

I don't know what I'm more excited about. The fact that Shwayze has been on my playlists for a year now, its almost as if I'm over it already. But I've listened to him and blogged about him too many times to just throw in the towel and give up now. As for the Japanese Motors, this is just a single being released with only 3 songs, never-the-less, I'm stoked on it. Should be a big day for music but we'll see. RVCA should be proud of their talent that they sponsor... should be a proud day for them too. word.

My homie from the hood, well Joe just claims he is just cause of his mission to Chicago, has made an eBook for everyone to enjoy. I suggest you throw the $1.99 at him and purchase the book. The book is only 31 pages long and takes less than a half hour to read and is everything I hoped for.

....Watching Step Up 2-The Streets.
The acting and story sucked. The fact they have white people claiming and talking like they are so hood is ridiculous and the only up side to this whole thing was the main character, after the fact you get passed her ghetto attitude she keeps getting better looking. Then she throws in some ghetto slang she learned while in her "crew" and then you realize that the only thing this movie had going for itself was the main character and how attractive she was. I really can't even remember her name, thats how bad this sucked.
The more I kept watching her and just focusing on her, I realized that she looks a lot like Karen from season 3 of the office. only upside.

Japanese Motors are the most exciting band to emerge from Orange County since the heyday of Social Distortion and TSOL. Hailing from Costa Mesa and comprised of RVCA pro-surfer and singer Alex Knost, guitarist Nolan Hall, bassist Chris Vail, and drummer Andrew Atkinson, the band is known around Southern California for the insane, all-night blowouts they put on as much as for the driving, raucous garage pop they set the partying to.
Rather than fight the influence of their surroundings like so many of their So Cal contemporaries, Japanese Motors have channeled it into their music, making tunes every bit as sun-baked and laid-back as their coastal environs and rife with positive imagery. "Most bands from here are trying to sound like they're from London or New York," Nolan says. "We embrace where we're from." In return for their local pride, the Southern Californian surf community has embraced them right back. Japanese Motors are part of RVCA's Artist Network Program and fellow surfers Emmett and Brendan Malloy (who made three White Stripes videos) directed the video for the band's first single "Single Fins & Safety Pins."
On August 19th, Vice Records will release this single, "Single Fins & Safety Pins," which contains the album version and a radio edit of the song, as well as b-side "Coors Lite," another track from their upcoming self-titled full length debut, due in October 2008. Japanese Motors hit the road in August, starting off in NYC, winding their way down the East Coast before heading back home to play with the Black Lips and at LA's Detour Fest....
